指示代词
1、指示代词在句中既起到名词作用,用作主语、宾语、表语,又可以起到形容词的作用,用作定语。
①This is my book. Those are Mary’s.
主语
②This book must be Mary’s.
定语
当指示代词作定语时,this、that后跟单数名词、其谓语用单数; 后跟复数名词,其谓语用复数。
these、those
2、this, these用来指距离较近的人或物,而that, those则指较远的人或物。
3、this, these常用来指下文要提到的事,而that, those则用来代替刚刚提到或前文已出现的事。

4、在比较状语从句中,为了避免重复前面的名词,常用that指代与前文同类的不可数名词。用those指代当前文同类的复数可数名词,用(the)one指代与前文同类的单数可数名词。(1) The weather in Summer in Beijing is cooler, than _____ in Shanghai.
