As the Chinese saying goes, “ the teacher is the engineer of human being ’s soul ”, so teacher plays an important part in our daily life. As a college student majoring in English Education, I will be an English teacher in the future, soI have to be clear that what makes a good language teacher. This question reminds me of my own teacher of English and Chinese. What I expect from them? Capable, humorous, responsible, well-prepared, kind and so on. Consequently, it breaks out the misunderstanding that whether a person is able to e a good language teacher solely depends on mand of the language, as it is only one aspect of the quality a good language teacher has. Then what makes a good language teacher? There are a variety of elements that contribute to the qualities ofa good English teacher, which can be categorized into three aspects: ethic devotion, personal style, and more importantly, the professional qualities. These three aspects constitute the petence ofa good language teacher. Firstly ,a good language teacher should have ethic devotion. The teacher should bea model and set a good example to his students because most students would be influenced by their teacher ’s behavior unconsciously.
