Lesson one Listening and speaking
1. Teaching Aims:
1) Do some listening and train the students’ listening ability.
2) Talk about the UK and Ireland.
3) Practise expressing agreement and disagreement.

2) How to express agreement and disagreement.
4. Teaching Contents:
Step I: Leading in (1) : by showing the national flag of UK and asking some questions.
1) Which country’s national flag is this?
2) Where is the UK?
3) What is the full name of the UK?
4) What do you know about the country?

Step II: Listening, filling and speaking
1) Listen to the tape twice and tick the sentences which are true. (on page 33)
2) Listen to the tape and fill in the lesson timetable. (on page 34)
3) Ask the students to talk about school activities.
Step III: Speaking up
Leading in
Our hometown is a beautiful and clean city with a river flowing through it. Now, an pany wants to build a paper factory in our city. This may be a good thing to some people while it may be a bad thing to others. Do you agree to build the paper factory? Why, or why not? Please discuss this problem in groups, and then tell us your opinions and reasons.

Advantages: more jobs/ more money/ more modern machines/ more panies.
Disadvantages: noise/ dangerous gases/ waste water
